The FUE Technique For Eyelash Transplant

Whenever you choose some type of product, service or procedure, it is important to have a basic understanding of how they work to produce results.  Here is a simple summary that will help you get started.

Getting New Lash Hairs Through Follicular Unit Extraction

Follicular Unit Extraction is a method in hair transplantation. It is usually used for those suffering from baldness on their head. Microsurgical punches are used to extract individual follicle grafts directly from the scalp.

For the lashes, hair is usually obtained from the back of the head. Conventional procedures often use the thickest hairs. But  nape hairs (from the back of the neck) are thinner and look more like real lashes.

Usually thirty to forty grafts are needed for the restoration of eyelashes.

Tiny incisions are created in the lash line. And the donor follicles are inserted into them.

After your procedure, don’t be surprised if the new hairs fall out! This is normal.  These hairs will shed. And new growth will then take place about 6 weeks after the time of your surgery. Developments will continue for up to 12 months.

Eyelash Hairs Post Transplantation

The newly inserted hairs will behave similar to the hairs from the area in which they came from. An example, hairs taken from the back of the head and inserted into the lashes will grow to longer lengths compared to hair taken from the nape. This is due to the texture of the donor hair, the place where the hair was extracted. This may sound nice, especially if you suffer from sparse eyelash hair. In order to maintain a fresh, natural look the lashes will need to be trimmed regularly. Grooming tools are needed to achieve desired looks.

Is An Eyelash Transplant Painful?

The sound of tiny hairs being removed from one part of your body to be inserted into tiny holes punched in the desired area may be frightening to some. However, as scary as it may read, it is an outpatient surgery that only lasts up to three hours. The pain is managed through local anesthetics and sometimes supplemented with sedatives to help the patient relax.

Eyelash Transplant Fact

The main fact and reason why people choose an eyebrow transplant over eyelash extensions, is that it is permanent. Once the transplant has been performed there is no need to repeat it in the future, as extensions need to be replaced after about six months. In addition, a transplant procedure provides a more natural look with continuous hair growth. It may be more desirable for some people who are not in favor of an artificial look.
